For busy modern families, a laundry MUST be practical… but who says it can’t be pretty as well?

Take, for example, this recent laundry project Jack Vorgias and the Woodstock Cabinet Makers team completed for a new build home in Holland Park. 

Small on space, big on storage solutions and fabulously functional for this family of five, this project was cleverly designed achieve this busy family's lifestyle.

Crisp and clean, with gloss white cabinetry, snow coloured stone bench tops and a gorgeous grey patterned tile splashback, added personality and style.  The elegant stainless steel curved flat profile handles, straightneck mixer tap and generous top mounted sink, sparkle in this light-filled space.  While the contrasting dark ceramic floor tiles are the perfect durable choice for the zone, continuing into the nearby powder room for a seamless visual transition.

When the client approached Jack, there were a few non-negotiables that had to be included.  Storage options were essential for this family as well as simple to keep clean and organised.  Boasting 10 large cupboards, including pull out storage and a laundry chute opening from the upstairs stairwell (a genius resolve for getting dirty clothing and linens downstairs quickly!) this seemingly simple laundry design is ideal for the home’s floorplan.  The closed front storage keeps everything from colour sorted laundry to cleaning products organised and concealed.  If you can believe it, this actually makes the tedious task of doing laundry become quite satisfying since good design makes everything run more efficiently.

 
With the custom cabinetry all designated to run along the rear wall, there is plenty of space left in the laundry to comfortably extend an ironing board and even hang clothes on a rail as you go.  A large sliding glass door to the exterior clothes line provides easy direct access – ideal for those days when the laundry basket is extra heavy.

For example, where you use an extra thick stone benchtop or feature cabinetry finishes/profiles, a standard 20mm stone thickness and single colour cabinetry or flat profile door, can reference the overall design concept but reduce the cost significantly.  Leaving you more left over to invest in quality high performance appliances or maybe even put towards that dream custom robe fit out.
